Where we get to talk to Buddhasugi, one of the oldest trees in Japan.
1800 Years and Waiting
A few weeks ago my friend and talented artist Dominique Vassie shared on her Instagram stories some wonderful images of her visit to the dreamy Yakushima Island in the southwest of Japan. They made me think about this incredibly old trees and all the things they have survived. This one is 1800 years old, it has outlived a couple of world wars, massive societal changes and a not negligible number of generations.
{ Dominique is a multifaceted illustrator, designer and educator from the UK currently based in Tokyo. She has worked on a wide range of projects including board game illustration, natural history illustration, museum exhibition design, graphic design, science communication and hands-on nature conservation work. She will have to leave Japan shortly if she can't secure a job. Do you know (or own) a company who can hire her, it would be highly appreciated to get in touch with her ASAP. }
