A short reflection on my relationship with politics and my strategy of improving the world by putting common sense before doctrine.
United Against Greed
Horrified, I read a few people recently claiming that if you don't speak out about Gaza, you are with Israel. Others claim that if you don't speak out against rape, you are a rapist. This is madness to me. Those who follow me know I tend to stay away from expressing my political stance online. In part because I don't think it'd help much and in part because I think doing so would often play on the bad guys’ hands: they own the media where we are using to protest. Complaining about Meta on a Meta channel is not a clever move; I can see Zuck laughing at his desk while they bring him another box full of money.
Of course it's important that prominent figures (like Robert De Niro, Pedro Almodóvar and Mark Ruffalo) speak out. But posting / not posting things online shouldn't warrant a label in your forehead. This "either you are with us or against us" is George W Bush and nerd reich thinking. Let everyone fight their fight in the way they want or the way they can.
I support Ukraine in defending themselves, am against bombing children in the Middle East (or anywhere else for that matter), consider a roof over our heads a human right, think women should be treated equally, think the queer community deserves to be left in peace, believe black lives matter a lot, and very much think climate change is real and very worrying. It just makes zero sense to me to think otherwise.
I respect all believes, all political stances and you are welcome to follow any doctrine you want… but not at the cost of others’ freedom. That is my line.
There are many ways to improve the world. One of them is to educate ourselves and our children. Every rapist, bully and nazi wannabe is a product of poor education and/or the result of someone's greed: behind every populist there's an interest. They all get richer as their popularity grows. That should make us think.
With this little comic I hope to calm those who think one should speak out. I think it's much more urgent to educate ourselves and others. Also to protect and love.
What's the point of croaking louder in a bucket full of frogs?
