Aoyama Flânerie

Omotesando, which means literally The front approach road was built as the main ceremonial path to Meiji Shrine, where the deified spirits (kami) of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken are kept. Walking between Omotesando and Meiji Jingumae you will have to wade through a sea of stores, malls and the Harajuku tourist crowds. If you keep walking on a Sunday afternoon, you will even see the rockabillies dancing on the south side of Yoyogi Park. 

Not a big fan of the main road (too many shops, too many tourists, too much noise) so I mostly walk the side streets of the wider Aoyama area. There's always something to discover in the back alleys and it's also where you can best observe people. Guessing who they are, where they come from and what their life is like is a sport I like to practice.
