About

Welcome to my garden.

I am Luis Mendo –an artist and author based in Japan— I've built this place to publish my stories without constrains. When I have enough stories in here, they will inform my next books.

MundoMendo is an independent publication platform, launched on September, 2024. It's available to members only: a place for fans to support my work. It also provides a safe space for me to share what I truly want to be making. I have designed and drawn for many clients during my life: beautified other people's ideas and projects for 30 years. It's time for me to give life to my own thing.

The Mundo Mendo Book series

For now online only. But once I have collected enough, the best will be bundled into a book series. Although now it's early to decide how those will look like, I am thinking of small volumes that would fit into a box set, holding and protecting them dearly. Members get a big discount on the books included in their subscription.

Access all areas

By signing up and choosing a membership tier, you'll get access to the full archive everything that gets published until your subscription runs out. It's your own private Luis Mendo library: you get full access to the website, as well as email newsletters about new content when it's available. Bold Members also get all my available digital zines, the Tokyo y Yo book english edition, 20% discount on my Art Prints shop, and 40% off the MundoMendo books when they come out.

Member Pages

Once you become a member, you will find links to your perks on these pages (depending on which membership you've chosen):

Mails & RSS

Every time I upload a new story, your inbox will let you know. Bye algorithms and oppressive ‘social’ feeds. I want Mundo Mendo to be like reading a book that keeps getting more and more pages.
You can expect about a couple of emails per month.
Also, if you prefer, there's an RSS feed.

POSSE

In order to stay independent and be free from the grip of social media silos, this site is built around the POSSE —publish on your site, syndicate elsewhere— model. Mandy Brown has a good piece about her approach to this, which I share and encourage others to consider.

Manifesto

Why am I Bothering?

Considering we have access to the most powerful tools for art making and art sharing in the history of Humanity, we could be doing a better use of it. With MundoMendo, I am exploring an alternative way to share my work while feeding my kids, instead of enriching the rich.

No more food for the bros
By sharing my work on this website, I am stepping out of the tech billionaire owned machines. This site runs on Ghost, which is a non-profit organization. They are open source, independent, and funded 100% by its users. No investors and no bullshit.
Hiding things behind a paywall offers some protection against AI bots stealing your work too.

For the happy few
MundoMendo is made for a handful of true fans. Running the website size agnostically is liberating. Whether they are 2 or 2000 readers doesn’t matter much to me: I just want to know that I have their attention and their hearts.

The value of what I make
It’s the context of MundoMendo what gives extra value to the stories: by offering a reading experience outside the available, ad free and designed by me, I’m confident my readers do not scroll brainlessly in a shopping mall. They rejoice looking at things for longer periods of time I hope, inspiring them and making them take the stories in on a more brighter manner.

Honoring the craft
I have been involved with magazines, periodicals and media for all my 30+ years of professional life. But I have always been cooking at someone else’s kitchen and now I want to have my own place, one where I get to decide everything, from the logo and the menu to the music and the lamps on the tables.

That place is called MundoMendo
While this site is alive, I promise to put most of my labour, time and love into making it better. Otherwise I shall stop.

POSSE
In order to stay independent and be free from the grip of social media silos, MundoMendo.com is built around the POSSE model: publish on your site, syndicate elsewhere.
