About Mundo Mendo, Luis Mendo's World

If you don't know me yet, I am Luis Mendo, an artist and author based in Japan. I've built this place to publish my stories without constrains while yearly, the best get bundled into real, paper books.

Mundo Mendo is an independent publication platform, launched on September, 2024. Contents are fully available to members only: it's a place for fans to support my work. It also provides a safe space for me to share what I truly want to be making. I have designed and drawn for many clients during my life: beautified other people's ideas and projects for over 30 years. It's time for me to give life to my own thing.
The Mundo Mendo Book series
About once a year (September/October), the best stories from this site are bundled into a book. Small volumes that would fit into a box set, holding and protecting them dearly. Members get the books for free.

Access all areas
By signing up and choosing a membership tier, members get access to the full archive: everything that gets published until their subscription runs out. It's their own private Luis Mendo library: full access to the website, as well as email newsletters when new content is published.
Regular Members get:
full access to all content on the site, the books once a year, 20% off the Almost Perfect Reset book and 30 min phone CALLS with me to talk about whatever: portfolio or career advice, Japan, moving to Japan advice… We can do the chat in either Spanish, English or Dutch.
Bold Members get:
the same as the Regular and also all my available digital zines, the 2023 Tokyo y Yo book, english edition and 20% discount on my Art Prints shop.
Mails & RSS
Every time I upload a new story, your inbox will let you know. Bye algorithms and oppressive ‘so-called-social’ feeds. I want Mundo Mendo to be like reading a book that keeps getting more and more pages added.
You can expect about a couple of emails per month.
Also, if you prefer, there's an RSS feed.
POSSE
In order to stay independent and be free from the grip of social media silos, this site is built around the POSSE —publish on your site, syndicate elsewhere— model. Mandy Brown has a good piece about her approach to this, which I share and encourage others to consider.
Manifesto
Why am I Bothering?
Considering we have access to the most powerful tools for art making and art sharing in the history of Humanity, we could be doing a better use of it. With MundoMendo, I am exploring an alternative way to share my work while feeding my kids, instead of enriching the rich.
No more food for the bros
By sharing my work on this website, I am stepping out of the tech billionaire owned machines and the engagement-for-profit hamster wheel. This site runs on Ghost, which is a non-profit organization. They are open source, independent, and funded 100% by its users. “No investors and no bullshit” as they say.
For the happy few
MundoMendo is made for a handful of true fans. Running the website size agnostically is liberating. Whether they are 2 or 2000 readers doesn’t matter much to me: I just want to know that I have their attention and their hearts, that's why I ask for a nominal fee. The price gives access to all stories and one 250+ page, beautifully crafted in Japan book sent to them every year.
The value of what I make
It’s the context of MundoMendo what gives extra value to the stories: by offering a reading experience outside the available, ad free and designed by me, I’m confident my readers do not scroll brainlessly in a shopping mall like Instagram. The main goal of the stories is to inspire and uplift readers. Contents are serious but always end on a bright tone.
Honoring the craft
Everything in Mundo Mendo is done by me. I designed, wrote, drew and decided every detail in the site. Even the fonts (except the Garamond you are reading right now and Friend, used in headlines and intros. The books are also all designed and made by me: I talk to the members, go to the printers, discuss estimates and even bring the books to the post office on my bicycle. It's all a big one man show effort, but I find it satisfying and fulfilling. Knowing that I can care and worry about every detail gives me less stress than relying on others.
The MundoMendo Promise
While this site is alive, I commit myself to put most of my labour, time and love into making it better. Otherwise I shall stop.
POSSE
In order to stay independent and be free from the grip of social media silos, MundoMendo.com is built around the POSSE model: publish on your site, syndicate elsewhere.
