Where does this need for identifying, labeling, branding and classifying ourselves come from? Maybe the world would be better without it? Never use questions on headlines, glad this is an intro.

A Bird Is a Bird Is a Bird

A Bird Is a Bird Is a Bird

The following is the result of me struggling to come up with a different branding for my online alter ego, after realizing many artists were also using bird's heads on their online personas. I was trying to come up with another animal or an object that would be a fitting substitute, but I ended up drawing only birds, lost in thought about the real need for labels, logos, avatars… all this urge to brand oneself seems, I concluded, an artificial construct to separate us from each other.

The sketchbook on my desk, where I scanned it – something I hadn't done in ages.

It will surprise some (and please many) that today's story was first fully drawn with pencil on paper. I was visiting my in-laws over the weekend and I didn't want to drag my iPad, so I chose a much lighter sketchbook and a few pencils instead.
Once at home, I scanned (久しぶり!!) the sketchbook and then colored all drawings on the iPad (Procreate) with the brand new Aqua Studio watercolor pack from my friends at True Grit Texture Supply, which came out yesterday. I helped TGTS with advice and made the illustrations on the product page.

A little close-up of the drawings.

In any case, I hope you like the rambling below, it's maybe the most weird of my MundoMendo stories to date.

Read online and on paper.
